4 Ateliers: GraveursAmbulants/Printmakers on the Move
This collaborative travelling exhibition features over 100 original prints by artists from four, artist-run printmaking workshops in Western Nova Scotia. The exhibition will be mounted in gallery spaces in the home communities of each printshop between August 2018 and July 2019. At each site a variety of public talks, demonstrations and workshops will be hosted by the members of the printshop from that region.
Building Awareness & Understanding
The exhibition brings original contemporary art to the Western Nova Scotian communities where each of the workshops is located – Yarmouth, Annapolis Royal, Mahone Bay and Church Point – reinforcing the fact that printmaking is alive and well in this region.
Learning, Sharing & Growing
Over 40 artists are represented. The exhibition provides a valuable opportunity for the artists to see firsthand the prints and ideas are being generated by their printmaking peers.
Increasing Access & Encouraging Participation
Traveling the exhibition to four localities allows a greater number of people to see the work. Accessibility is certainly in the nature of printmaking due to its contemporary relevance and its portability as well as its relative affordability. It is hoped that our exhibition will increase public understanding of printmaking as an avenue of creative expression and inspire other artists to explore its possibilities as a part of their own art-making practice.
